Synthesis of thermoluminescence α-Ca2P2O7:Eu3+ bio-nanomaterial

• The polycrystalline sample of alpha-Ca2P2O7:Eu3+ was successfully synthesized by solution combustion synthesis method.
• The phosphor shows comparable (about 1.16 times) TL intensity as that of commercially available TLD-100 (Harshaw) TL phosphor.
• The PL spectra and morphology (SEM) of nanocrystalline alpha-Ca2P2O7 phosphor was discussed.

The polycrystalline sample of bio-nanomaterial α-Ca2P2O7:Eu3+ was prepared by employing modified solution combustion synthesis method. The prepared sample was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and Photoluminescence (PL) spectra. The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) shows the nanostructure of this phosphor. By exposing with gamma-rays its thermoluminescence (TL) properties were recorded. Thermoluminescence glow curves of α-Ca2P2O7:Eu3+ phosphor shows three distinct glow peaks at 160 °C while higher temperature peaks at 275 °C and 322 °C, respectively, for the heating rate of 5 °C/s. The kinetic parameters including activation energy (E) and frequency factor (s) were calculated using peak shape method for both the peaks of given phosphor. The phosphor was found to be comparable (116%) sensitive to that of commercially available LiF: Mg, Cu, P (TLD-100H) phosphor. The effect of dose variation on α-Ca2P2O7:Eu3+ was found to be linear up to 25 Gy dose.
