• LSCF perovskite was synthesized by only 20 min mechanical processing and without external heating.
• The mechanically synthesized LSCF was composed of mainly granules consisting of nanosized particles.
• The electrochemical properties confirm the suitability of the proposed method for producing high-quality LSCF perovskite powders used for SOFC cathodes
• The proposed method was very simple and energy-saving.
A simple mechanical process to synthesize La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3 (LSCF) perovskite by using a high-speed attrition-type mill was proposed. The properties of the synthesized powder as well as the electrochemical performance of the resultant cathode were evaluated. The results revealed that LSCF perovskite was successfully synthesized through short-duration 20 min mechanical processing without external heating. Further, the electrochemical properties of the resultant cathode suggested that the proposed method is a very promising simple and energy-saving approach for producing high-quality LSCF particles for application as a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) cathode material.
