The gene encoding cyclooxygenase-2 is regulated by IL-1β and prostaglandins in 832/13 rat insulinoma cells

► IL-1β-mediated induction of the COX2 gene requires p65 and p50. ► Genes encoding EP 1-4 receptors are expressed in rat islets and β-cell lines. ► COX2 and EP-4 gene expression is enhanced by PGD2 and PGE2. ► Expression of the EP-3 gene is decreased by PGD2 and PGE2. ► PGD2 and PGE2 augment cytokine-mediated NF-κB and GAS reporter gene activity.
