Heuristic algorithms for two-dimensional uplink burst construction in IEEE 802.16 networks

► The bandwidth allocation in IEEE 802.16 OFDMA mode is a variant of packing problem. ► The previous methods do not fully comply with the requirements of IEEE 802.16. ► We identify the constraints and design issues of the bandwidth allocation algorithm. ► Our methods consider the constraints and design issues when allocating bandwidth. ► Our methods achieve 1.5-2 times the throughput achieved by the conventional method.
