Sediment transport through a tidal creek

► A 3-month field experiment in Henderson Creek tidal creek, New Zealand. ► During spates, freshwater displaced saltwater from the tidal creek. ► During one spate 33% of catchment sediment runoff was exported from tidal creek. ► Between spates tidal currents deposited sediment in upper reaches of tidal creek. ► Return of sediment to tidal creek between spates was enhanced by wind waves.
