►Morne Jacob volcano (Martinique) was active from 5.14 ± 0.07 to 1.53 ± 0.02 Ma./ ►Morne Jacob is the oldest volcano of the recent Lesser Antilles arc dated so far. ►Unloading due to creeping allowed eruption of densest magmas since 2.12 Ma. ►The total erupted volume of Morne Jacob volcano is 145 ± 32 km3. ►The time-averaged eruptive rate of Morne Jacob is 0.040 ± 0.008 km3/kyr.
