Multigene phylogenetic analyses including diverse radiolarian species support the “Retaria” hypothesis - The sister relationship of Radiolaria and Foraminifera

► Genes encoding four proteins and two rRNAs from radiolarians were sequenced. ► Multigene analyses showed a close relationship between Radiolaria and Foraminifera. ► Two paralogues of actin, α-tubulin, and β-tubulin were found in radiolarians. ► One paralogue of radiolarian α-tubulin is likely to have been laterally transferred. ► Divergent β-tubulin may descend from a common ancestor of Retaria.
