The characteristics of fuel spray is a widely investigated area of research. From these studies the effect of parameters like injection pressure, ambient pressure, temperature, ambient density are well known. Ambient vapour concentration play a crucial role in droplet evaporation. So spray structure can get influenced with ambient vapour concentration through the heating and evaporation process. The present paper deals with this subject. To study the effect of ambient concentration alone, it is important to conduct the experiments at same thermodynamic conditions. This paper presents a methodology in which the spray characteristics can be studied at different ambient concentration of the vapour while maintaining the same ambient pressure, temperature and density. The effect of vapour concentration on spray is presented in terms of spray penetration, cone angle, projected spray area and liquid length for a n-hexane spray. The effects of heating and evaporation of the spray are discussed in the context of available correlation for liquid length.
