This study proposes to apply an efficient formulation to solve the stochastic security-constrained generation capacity expansion planning problem using power transmission distribution factors (PT) and line outage distribution factors (LO). The classical DC-based formulation has been reformulated in order to include the security criteria solving both pre- and post-contingency constraints simultaneously. The main advantage of this formulation is the reduction of decision variables and constraints improving the simulation time without sacrificing optimality. Additionally, the methodology takes into account the load uncertainty in the optimization problem using a two-stage multi-period model, and it is also used a clustering technique in order to reduce load scenarios (stochastic problem). We have conducted several experiments to validate the better simulation time obtained by the proposed formulation. Finally, this study provides effects and insights on how the number of load scenarios affects the load shedding and simulation time solving the stochastic security-constrained generation planning problem.
