Mild oxidation of alcohols with periodic acid catalyzed by [Ru(acac)2(CH3CN)2]PF6 in water

A facile [Ru(acac)2(CH3CN)2]PF6 (Hacac = acetylacetone) (1) catalyzed oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes or ketones using H5IO6 as oxidant in water at room temperature is described.
