Characterization of two genes for the biosynthesis of abietane-type diterpenes in rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) glandular trichomes

Rosemary diterpene synthases RoCPS1, RoKSL1/2 were characterized and shown to catalyze the conversion of GGDP to copalyl diphosphate and miltiradiene respectively. RoCPS1 and RoKSL2 are predominantly expressed in glandular trichomes where miltiradiene is likely to be converted to carnosic acid.
