Artemisinin biosynthesis in growing plants of Artemisia annua. A 13CO2 study

A plant of Artemisia annua was labelled with 13CO2. The isotopologue profile of artemisinin indicated its formation from (E,E)-farnesyl diphosphate with a prenyl moiety (marked in red) predominantly derived from the non-mevalonate pathway.
