The synthesis of (9S)-9-alkyl-9-hydroxyerythromycin A derivatives and their ketolides

A short, concise synthesis of novel (9S)-9-alkyl-9-hydroxyerythromycin A derivatives and their corresponding ketolides, from clarithromycin (1) is described.
