Improvement of Eu3+ emissions in oxyfluoride glass and nano glass-ceramic by electron beam irradiation

In this article, we demonstrate that the luminescence of Eu3+ doped glass and nano glass-ceramic is improved by electron beam irradiation. Additionally, our research revolves around the change phase in the samples created by electron beam irradiation. Eu3+ doped glass and glass-ceramic with composition 64.5P2O5, 35CaF2, 0.1Eu2O3 were electron irradiated with 10 MeV energy and 10 kGy dose. Structural characterization by FE-SEM and XRD shows that the electron irradiation induces the phase transformation of amorphous to crystal phase in Eu3+ doped glass and the crystal phase transformation in Eu3+ doped glass-ceramic. Electron beam irradiation decreases the absorption spectra in the ultraviolet region and a creation of color center in the whole visible region. The excitation and emission spectra of the samples before and after the electron beam irradiation also were investigated. These results indicate that the electron beam irradiation increase the inversion asymmetry site around Eu3+ion and then improves the electric dipole transition intensity.
