Novel red phosphor of double perovskite compound La2MgTiO6:xEu3+

► Double perovskite La2MgTiO6:xEu3+ was synthesized by a solid state reaction. ► Red emission from transition 5D0→7F2 was obtained, three times more intense than that of Y2O3:Eu3+. ► CIE chromaticity coordinate of the phosphor showed the high color purity.
