Nanoscale strain characterization of Ti3Al precipitate-reinforced Ti alloys

In this work, the nanoscale strain distribution of Ti3Al precipitate-reinforced Ti alloys was characterized using a coupled technology of transmission electron microscope (TEM) and geometrical phase analysis (GPA). Our work demonstrated that brittle Ti3Al precipitates were compressed, and thus benefited the mechanical properties, which cannot be simply achieved by traditionally theoretical predictions. This approach is expected to be applied in other alloy systems for nanoscale stress/strain analysis and performance optimization.
