Erosive wear properties of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced PEEK composites

► A special procedure is designed to observe the cross-sectional surface of the eroded composites. ► Both cutting and deformation mechanisms existed in the erosion of CF/PEEK composites.► Different damaging forms were involved depending on the impingement angles and the CF orientation. ► Increased eroded surface temperature was registered with increasing impingement angle.
