▶Progesterone is a neuroprotective factor for demyelinating diseases. ▶In lysolecithin-induced spinal cord demyelination, progesterone increases myelination. ▶Progesterone also stimulates the density of precursors and mature oligodendrocytes. ▶In the same model, progesterone also attenuates microglial activation. ▶Progesterone myelinating and antinflammatory effects occur at the spinal cord level.
