Synoptic environment, mesoscale configurations and forecast parameters for hailstorms in Southwestern Europe

► A methodology to tackle the prediction of hailstorms is described. ► Simulations of 100 days of study were done with the WRF model. ► A PCA and CA was done in order to establish four mesoscale configurations. ► Several hail forecast parameters were compared between hail/hail-free grid points.
