Anthropogenic carbon changes in the Irminger Basin (1981-2006): Coupling δ13CDIC and DIC observations

► In all water masses, we observe a decline in δ13CDIC and Δδ13CDICeMLR reflecting the penetration of anthropogenic CO2. ► The Suess Effect is also large in these water masses with a time rate of change between -0.014‰ year− 1 and -0.015‰ year− 1. ► Low δ13CDIC values (0.4‰-0.5‰) observed close to the Greenland coast in the upper 1000 m are likely associated to the EGCC. ► The anthropogenic change explains 75% of the observed δ13CDIC decrease for the oldest water mass and 90% for the youngest. ► In addition, our results confirm a reduction of the Cant storage rate in this region between 1981 and 2006.
