Extraction of protein from the macroalga Palmaria palmata

► A protocol for the extraction of intact Palmaria palmata proteins has been developed. ► Critical parameters associated with extraction of the alkaline soluble protein were determined. ► Application of specific polysaccharidases is an effective method for disruption of macroalgal cells. ► The conditions utilised in this study may be applicable with other macroalgal species.
