Sustainable production of polyhydroxyalkanoates from renewable oil-palm biomass

► In Malaysia, palm oil industries contribute huge quantities of biomass residues. ► Oil palm biomass has tremendous potential as feedstocks for bioplastic production. ► The utilization oil palm biomass for polymer production would be more cost-effective. ► Thus, PHA production can be more competitive and sustainable. ► The advantages and challenges for commercialization of PHA are also discussed.
