Assessing capacities of non-Annex I countries for national forest monitoring in the context of REDD+

► Countries have large capacity gaps to implement a national REDD+ monitoring system. ► Little improvement in monitoring capacities can be observed between 2005 and 2010. ► Because of the slow pace of progress there is urgent need to take immediate action. ► Capacity building needs vary based on each country situation and existing capacities. ► Countries can benefit from South-South cooperation and regional capacity sharing.
