Characterizations and proteome analysis of platelet-free plasma-derived microparticles in β-thalassemia/hemoglobin E patients

► This study characterized microparticles (MPs) in β-Thal/HbE compared to normal. ► Circulating MPs were originated mainly from platelets. ► β-Thal/HbE patients had higher levels of MPs as compared to normal subjects. ► The number of MPs was correlated with their procoagulant activity. ► Altered proteome of MPs in β-Thal/HbE was characterized.
