Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometric determination of fifteen elements in dietary supplements: Are the concentrations declared in the labels accurate?

► We determined 15 elements in 5 commercial brands of dietary supplements. ► Toxic elements such as As, Cd, Hg and Pb were not detected. ► A potentially toxic element such as Antimony was detected in samples of multivitamins. ► In general, no alarming results were obtained in the formulations studied. ► Variations up to 100% were observed among tablets of the same bottle. ► Consumers are not receiving the same dose in each intake.
