Expression of the Foxi2 and Foxi3 transcription factors during development of chicken sensory placodes and pharyngeal arches

► Foxi3 transcription factor is expressed early in non-neural ectoderm. ► Foxi3 then becomes localized to the pre-placodal domain. ► Foxi3 is later restricted to the pharyngeal arch region. ► Foxi3 ultimately marks pharyngeal slits and clefts. ► Foxi2 is expressed in cranial ectoderm from stage 9 onwards.
