Drainage sous-cutané des œdèmes en soins palliatifs

Edema of lower extremities is a common problem in 19% of palliative cancer patients. Lymphedema decreases mobility, induces pain and impacts daily activities. Usual treatment is based on diuretics and physiotherapy, but it is often unsuccessful. If conventional treatment failed in palliative care, subcutaneous drainage can be discussed with the patients. The technique is simple, easy to use, but remains little known. We report a clinical case that assesses daily weight, abdominal perimeter, lower extremities circumferences and bioelectrical impedance measurements. Since 2004, twenty-two cases were reported with various methods. A standardized protocol is described for further studies.
