This research analyses the psycholinguistic skills in children who are in a situation of residential care. This study provides those components which are most seriously affected (morphology, syntax, semantic and pragmatic). It also analyses the relation between the level of personal, school and social maladjustment and the linguistic repercussions that the situation of lack of protection caused on children. This study points out that there are more pragmatic and morphological difficulties than syntactic and semantic ones. We examine the relation between the level of knowledge of morphology, syntax and semantic and the level of social maladjustment in children. Regarding the dimension of personal maladjustment, there are significant differences concerning the level of knowledge only in pragmatic. Finally, with regard to school maladjustment there are differences concerning the level of linguistic knowledge in syntax and semantic.
