Soil CO2 efflux vs. soil respiration: Implications for flux models

► Soil CO2-efflux and soil respiration were studied on a deeply aerated soil. ► Q10-models based on soil respiration and CO2-efflux data were not different. ► After rainfall up to 40% of the soil respiration was temporarily stored in the soil. ► Soil moisture has a stronger influence on soil respiration than on CO2-efflux.
