The effect of solvents on the antioxidant activity in Caco-2 cells of Irish brown seaweed extracts prepared using accelerated solvent extraction (ASE®)

► Antioxidant compounds were extracted from three Irish seaweeds. ► Four solvent extraction systems were utilised. ► Extracts were tested in chemical reaction and cellular based antioxidant assays. ► Extracts from Ascophyllum nodosum exhibited the greatest antioxidant activity.
