Role of carbon in the chromium deposit electroplated from a trivalent chromium-based bath

► The hardening mechanism of anneal-hardened Cr-C deposit was studied. ► This hardening mechanism could be precipitation of carbon-related membranes. ► These carbon-related membranes transfer to diamond-like structure after annealing. ► A Cr-C deposit can be hardened via flame-heating in one second.
