• Peach gum was firstly used for silver nanoparticles synthesis under solar irradiation.
• The Ag NPs were predominantly spherical in shape.
• The method is facile, economic and environmentally benign.
• The synthesized Ag NPs were successfully applied in colorimetric sensing of H2O2.

In the present study, silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were successfully synthesized by treating silver ions with peach gum polysaccharide (PG) under solar radiation. The Ag NPs were crystallized in the face centered cubic with an average particle size of 23.56±7.87 nm. The possible synthesis mechanisms were elucidated through FTIR. The PG mediated Ag NPs were successfully applied in analytical procedures for the colorimetric sensing of H2O2. The detection limit is found to be 0.035 µM, which is lower than certain enzymebased biosensors.
