Improvement on hardness and corrosion resistance of ferritic stainless steel via PVD-(Ti,Cr)N coatings

► The single-layered TiN, CrN and multilayered TiCrN coatings were arc-deposited on the SUS 430 substrates. ► The TiCrN multilayered 430 stainless steel had an increase in surface hardness from 160 to 2852 kg/mm2. ► The TiCrN multilayered 430 stainless steel had an improvement in corrosion resistance in 10 vol.% HCl solution.
