The effect of cladding speed on phase constitution and properties of AISI 431 stainless steel laser deposited coatings

► We examine high speed laser cladding of AISI 431 stainless steel. ► High speed cladding can extremely refine the structure of the coatings. ► Structural refinement lowers the Ms temperature of AISI 431 coatings. ► More austenite is retained in coatings deposited at higher cladding speeds. ► High speed laser cladding does not improve the performance of AISI 431 coatings.
