Amphotericin B releasing topical nanoemulsion for the treatment of candidiasis and aspergillosis

To develop a therapeutic tool against skin candidiasis and aspergillosis with amphotericin B, a nanoemulsion delivery system was developed performing the pseudo-ternary phase diagram of components with reported skin compatibility. The nanosystem vehicle was then characterized in terms of size, stability, rheology, and release properties. Furthermore, human skin permeation (ex vivo) and tolerance (in vivo) was evaluated, as well as, its antifungal efficacy. Results demonstrated that the amphotericin B nanoemulsion could provide a local skin effect avoiding theoretical systemic absorption assuring its safety.176
