- Sublimation of GdI3 and TmI3 was studied by Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry.
- Monomer, dimer, and trimer molecules were registered in vapor.

The sublimation of solid gadolinium and thulium triiodides was studied by Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry. The partial vapor pressures [atm] of the monomer and dimer molecules were determined as: lnp(GdI3)Â =Â â(32.31Â Â±Â 0.18)Â ÃÂ 103/TÂ +Â (21.38Â Â±Â 0.21) for 777-946Â K; lnp(Gd2I6)Â =Â â(38.07Â Â±Â 0.42)Â ÃÂ 103/TÂ +Â (24.49Â Â±Â 0.47) for 843-946Â K; lnp(TmI3)Â =Â â(31.84Â Â±Â 0.25)Â ÃÂ 103/TÂ +Â (21.88Â Â±Â 0.29) for 760-965Â K; and lnp(Tm2I6)Â =Â â(38.23Â Â±Â 0.27)Â ÃÂ 103/TÂ +Â (25.71Â Â±Â 0.43) for 799-965Â K. In addition, the trimers Gd3I9 and Tm3I9 were detected in very small fractions. On the basis of a joint analysis of all available data in literature, the sublimation enthalpies [kJÂ molâ1] at 298.15Â K are recommended as 283Â Â±Â 9 (GdI3), 336Â Â±Â 16 (Gd2I6), 366Â Â±Â 50 (Gd3I9), 276Â Â±Â 3 (TmI3), 330Â Â±Â 6 (Tm2I6), and 354Â Â±Â 50 (Tm3I9). The standard formation enthalpies [kJÂ molâ1] of the gaseous species at 298.15Â K are â341Â Â±Â 9 (GdI3), â912Â Â±Â 16 (Gd2I6), â1506Â Â±Â 50 (Gd3I9), â344Â Â±Â 5 (TmI3), â909Â Â±Â 7 (Tm2I6), and â1506Â Â±Â 50 (Tm3I9).
