A non-equilibrium quasistationary state in an ionic liquid caused by a focused laser

A Fe-based (but not in a Ga-based) room temperature ionic liquid generates a radial pattern of polarization when laser light falls on it. On switching the laser off, the pattern shows a quasistationary structure. The pattern seems to be due to dipole 'rotators' created resonantly by the laser.
