Revision of Shantungia (Trilobita: Damesellidae) from the Kushan Formation (Guzhangian), Shandong, China

Three complete exoskeletons of Shantungia, belonging to Shantungia sinensis (Bergeron, 1899) and Shantungia liui n. sp., were recovered from the Cambrian Kushan Formation at the Wohushan, Lujiahucun Village, Lanshan District, Linyi City, as well as Jiulongshan and Shengjing sections, Laiwu City, Shandong, China. This paper is dealing with the first record of the complete exoskeletons and associated hypostomes of Shanungia since its establishment over 110 years ago. As an important genus of Damesellidae, the new discovery resolves features of the dorsal morphology, clarifies morphological diversity within the family and enables revision of previous taxonomic works.
