Phenolic acid metabolites derived from coffee consumption are unlikely to cross the blood-brain barrier

► Based on the literature, we identified the main circulating chlorogenic acids metabolites circulating in plasma after coffee consumption. ► We studied the capacity of the main circulating chlorogenic acids metabolites from coffee to penetrate the brain using a commercially available and validated in vitro model of blood brain barrier. ► The main chlorogenic acids metabolites from coffee are not likely to enter the brain in vivo.
