Phytochemical and allelopathic studies of Terminalia catappa L. (Combretaceae)

► Terminalia catappa fruits exhibited allelopathic activity on Lactuca sativa model. ► β-Sitosterol-3-O-β-d-glucoside was active as an allelopathic compound. ► Fatty acids and Phenolic acids were identified in the active extracts. ► Seasonal influence on allelochemical effect was experimentally determined. ► Allelopathic activity of T. catappa can be related to different groups of substances.
