A novel cBN composite coating design and machine testing: A case study in turning

► We characterized the cBN composite coating with different complementary tools. ► The coating is well adherent, even, and with cBN particles evenly distributed in its matrix. ► The coating was tested for continuous turning of hardened and pre-hardened steels. ► The coating outperformed its industrial counterpart tools in the respective applications.
