Microstructure and mechanical properties of carbon nitride multilayer films deposited by DC magnetron sputtering

►An alternate structure composed of the soft (sp2-rich) and hard (sp3-rich) layers. ►Multilayer film with a 60 nm-period shows the highest hardness among all the films. ►Nanoscratch performance of the carbon nitride multilayers was first reported.
