Extraction and purification of a lectin from small black kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) using a reversed micellar system

► Lectin from crude extract of small black kidney bean was extracted. ► The bioprocess was easy to perform using AOT in isooctane reversed micelles. ► The maximum protein recovery (53.28%) and purification factor (8.2-fold) were obtained. ► The efficiency of the process was confirmed by gel electrophoresis analysis. ► The lectin could be pre-purification by one step, with a low investment in equipment.
