Dry sliding wear behaviour of hypereutectic Al-Si piston alloys containing iron-rich intermetallics

► This paper is an original research that has been investigated the effect of iron rich intermetallics on the wear behaviour of Al-Si alloys. ► The paper discuss the effect of iron rich intermetallics on the wear behaviour of Al-Si alloys. It has been shown that modifying of beta intermetallic by Mn can reduce the detrimental effect of iron. ► TIG welding method as a surface melting process could lead to a fine microstructure and increases the wear resistance of Al-Si alloy containing intermetallics.
