Overly cautious and dangerous: An empirical evidence of the older driver stereotypes

► We empirically validate the presence of negative stereotypes of older drivers. ► Two experiments were conducted using 12 simulated clips of on-road behaviors. ► Participants rated how representative the behaviors were of a typical younger, middle-aged, or older driver. ► Older drivers' unsafe behaviors were rated as representative of the typical older driver. ► Older drivers were qualified as being overly cautious, uncomfortable behind the wheel, unsafe and dangerous.
