Phytohemagglutinins augment red kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) induced allergic manifestations

► Phytohemagglutinins (PHAs, mainly PHA-P) are present in red kidney bean seeds. ► PHA-P induces prominent allergic symptoms in BALB/c mice. ► PHA-L and PHA-E are two IgE binding components of PHA-P. ► Both PHA-L and PHA-E may induce allergic manifestations. ► PHA-L and PHA-E induce GATA-3 and T-bet expressions.
