Erosion performance and characterization of nanolayer (Ti,Cr)N hard coatings for gas turbine engine compressor blade applications

► First study to examine both (Ti,Cr)N coating erosion and corrosion performances. ► TiN and CrN phase volumes, hardness, microstructure, and substrate biasing were investigated. ► Increased Cr led to a greater CrN phase volume and decreased erosion performance. ► Coatings deposited at lower bias had decreased corrosion resistance.
