Growth process of GaAs ripples as a function of incident Ar-ion dose

► Ripple morphology on GaAs is a promising topic of research. ► We report here the physical mechanism of ripple formation on GaAs sputtered by 60 keV Ar-ions at an angle of 60°. ► The results are described by the existing formalism of ripple pattern formation on surfaces.
