Supercritical fluid extraction of phycocyanin and investigation of cytotoxicity on human lung cancer cells

- Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of phycocyanin (PC) was studied.
- The maximum PC was achieved at 250 bar and 60 °C for 45 min using 10% ethanol.
- SCF extracted PC has higher cytotoxic effect than solvent extracted PC on A549 cells.
- PC can be included in daily diet for preventive purposes against lethal lung cancer.
