The purpose of this exploratory study is to examine the perceptions hospitality employees have of their younger and older managers by generation and job position across three generational cohorts. Using data collected from both line-level employees and managers of a U.S. hotel company, first the underlying dimensions of employees’ perceptions of their younger and older managers were identified. Afterwards, a multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) test was used to identify significant differences in employees’ perceptions of their younger and older managers by generations and job position across three generational cohorts while controlling for employees tenure. Findings supported the premise that there are significant differences in employees’ perceptions of their younger and older managers by generation and job position across three generational cohorts. Managerial implications are discussed.
